in Chile at the end of 2010. This article analyzes the effect of the BVP on the profile of the students admitted to the pedagogy programs at universities that are members of the Council of Chancellors of Chilean Universities (CRUCh) and how that effect has varied in the different CRUCh universities. Using data from the CRUCh admission processes and the databases of the high-school sophomore SIMCE testing, it is confirmed that the outcome of the BVP has been students entering pedagogy programs who have earned better scores in the university selection testing (PSU) and performed better during high school. More importantly, that improvement in the student profile does not seem to be due merely to the fact that the scholarship is not conditioned to the applicant’s economic situation, but rather to the effects of residual elements not measured by selection testing. It may be partially due to "skills". Lastly, the analysis shows that the universities preferred by a greater proportion of BVP recipients are universities that previously accepted students with higher PSU scores.
