The author reviews a large number of texts from a well-defined perspective, investigating in particular the relationship between utopian propositions and individual liberty. Initially, he admits that "Utopia" and "Freedom" are easily definable terms and perhaps, for that same reason, they serve as a starting point for an ample reflection on human organizations, power and freedom, the undeniable and always present force of utopian thought, even in the most unexpected authors and works. At the end of his paper, Widmer also assumes his own Utopia, a libertarian utopia, in which a large part of production is controlled neither the State nor by the laws of the market but rather by the autonomous and varied activity of individual and non-coercive associations.
