The diagnosis is clear, claims Arturo Fontaine in this article: Chilean society is marked by highly unequal income distribution closely related to educational inequalities. Moreover, children from wealthier families have the advantage of better educated parents and higher quality teachers, which gives them a better chance of success in academic challenges. The author puts forward five proposals to overcome this profound inequality, which would also contribute to an overall improvement in the level of school education. The measures proposed would have an immediate and massive impact in households and would not require special legislation for their approval.
