In chapter 3 of his book "Aquinas" (see Estudios Públicos 90, 2003), John Finnis shows how certain human goods constitute objective reasons and basic motivations for actions, thus refuting ethical skepticism. In this essay, Finnis continues his analysis and explains how these reasons are coordinated and interrelated. He finds the response in his interpretation of three great topics of the doctrine of Thomas of Aquinas: (i) happiness as fulfilment (beatitude); (ii) practical reason or prudence; and (iii) the first precept of natural law.
