In this conference, the author explores some relations between liberalism and Catholicism. He holds that it is not about commensurate doctrines. Liberalism is a theory of political justice. Although the official discourse of Catholicism is committed to a theory of political justice, it is not clear how far that commitment defines the Catholic condition. He also enunciates some matters that may be relevant to clarifying the issues of political justice from the perspective of liberalism and the Christian religion. Finally, he looks at three basic matters in Christian doctrine —death, love and truth— and proposes a personal divergent alternative.
