This paper studies, in light of the results of the Mapuche survey by CEP in 2006, the degree of intensity with which different groups in the Mapuche world identify with the Mapuche culture as compared to integration to the national culture. Perceptions and attitudes of Mapuches are analyzed in regard to practicing and maintaining their culture as well as their expectations of integrating to the national culture. The study shows that a rather symbolic sense of belonging to the ancestral culture and true desires to integrate to the national culture would coexist in "feeling Mapuche".
