The subject of this work is the implications of demographic changes that have occurred in Chile in the last few decades. The author indicates that the demographic transition will continue in the near future, and there will be a gradual, marked ageing of the population. Different impacts in the future are outlined in such areas as growth of per capita income and the labor market, accumulation of human capital and its relationship to social inequality. Simulation models are used to provide an idea of the magnitude of these impacts, especially on economic growth and social inequality. The author also emphasizes the importance of developing public policies for senior citizens, which would be the group with the largest growth in the near future.
