The following pages portray the collapse of a myth to give way to the real man, the dazzling creator who did not contribute to the downfall of America but to its endurance. From the perspective of a faithful fan of Bob Dylan’s songs and a follower of his extensive and complex artistic history, Mario Valdovinos reviews the stages of the poet-singer’s career. The account does not exclude criticism or irony aimed at plumbing the depths of a myth that Dylan hid and distorted in his early stages as a singer, but that today, at a time of maturity when he has reconciled with himself, he softens and reveals (especially with the publication of his Crónicas, 2005) in view of the proximity of his final years, the years of retirement when he will hang up his guitar, or maybe the years of reinvention. The story starts with the singer´s performance in March of this year at the Arena theater in Santiago, Chile, where the last date with Bob Dylan took place.
