There can be no doubt, says Joseph Ramos in this article, that economics as a discipline has an important technical content, but it is not ethically aseptic as some suggest. Economic activity, economic policy and even economic theory —he says— are intimately interwoven with value considerations. The paper examines five of the main interfaces between economics and ethics. He concludes that economics would benefit by these considerations being made explicit, instead of overlooking or denying them.
